There are many changes going on in the Arab world. Most
people have heard about the phrase “Arab Spring”. It explains the Arab
revolution in several countries, such as Tunisia, Egypt, Libya, Yemen and now Syria.
People in these countries decided to express their anger and protest against
the conditions in which they live.
The Arab Spring
did not end yet. People are deciding to change their leaders because they want
to change their circumstances. Until people achieve their goals, there is no
end to the revolution. In other words,
the problems underlying the revolutions have not been solved. So how could it
end? It can be clearly seen that the revolution in Syria is still alive. People
in Syria are suffering, and their revolt against injustice is still continuing.
Through the Arab Spring in North
Africa and in the Middle East, Arabs managed to wake up from their slumber.
They are freed from oppression. Demonstrations achieved the demands of the
people, brought down corrupt regimes, and gave the opportunity to people to
express their suffering. However, the Arab Spring failed to restore stability
and security in the countries where the revolutions occurred. There are many
economical issues and wide destructions of buildings happening as a result of
the Arab Spring.
It is significant to keep the Arab
Spring alive because it is the voice of the Arab people. It reflects how they are
tired of being silent, wanting to achieve social justice, and getting the
freedom of speech and expression. These revolutions did not occur suddenly and
without warning. They ate the result of many accumulations over a period of
time where people suffered from injustice and even the most basic rights of
citizens in their homeland. Such as, the right to live with dignity and
democracy to express what people want.
Arab governments have to allow their
citizens to express their rights and give them the right to do peaceful
demonstrations. Freedom
of speech and expression is very important; it gives citizens the chance to
expresses themselves. As a result, governments will know their demands and work
to achieve them. In addition, governments should provide a decent livelihood
for citizens.
The speeches and promises from presidents
and candidates should not just be slogans. For example, the promise of fair
elections, justice, infrastructure development, increase in per capita income
and achieving democracy must be met. Otherwise, people will demonstrate and
demand their rights throughout all four seasons, not only in the spring.
